Guide How to Install Mac OSX on PC (Snow Leopard)

July 25th, 2010 12 Comments

This guide tutorial will show you how easy is to install Snow Leopard Mac OSX on a PC computer without using a Mac (Hackintosh). Hence no hacking required. How to install Mac OS X on a PC without using a Mac or Hack? Fortunately there are leaked tools to help you with Mac installaion on a PC without having access to a Mac to perform the preparation necessary for the installation. The guide tutorial installing Mac OS X on a PC was leaked by Jorge Sierra on MUO (big thanks to him).

So probably it could be the cheaper way to get a Mac computer running well and smooth instead of purchasing Mac machine. However installing Mac OSX on hardware other than Apple Macintosh is against Mac OSX EULA which means you are breaking the contract. But however as long as you own a legal copy of Mac OS X, you are not against the law (copyright violation law).

Steps to Build a Mac OS X PC without Using a Mac

1- Build up hardwares required for your PC

Meanwhile at least you can refer to following Hackintosh PC specs:
- Intel Core i3-530 Clarkdale 2.93GHz
- Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 Motherboard

The motherboard has an 8-pin power connector on it, and although it is possible to connect a single 4-pin connector to it, you may encounter odd issues running with just a single 4-pin connector.

- 4 GB DDR3 1333 RAM (2 x 2GB)
- DVD Burner
- MicroATX Computer Case
- 585 Watt Power Supply
- 4-pin to 8-pin Power Adapter
- Monitor
- Powerful enough VGA Card (ATI or NVidia)
- Big-sized enough hard drive
- Also, Mac OSX Snow Leopard v10.6.3 retail DVD
Hackintosh PC specs mentioned above are what used by writer of this tutorial. Then start building up each hardware together. What if hardware specs you are using are different from above specs? Probably you may need to make adjustments when configuring the BIOS and installing the boot loader. The more modern your hardware is, the better the chances are it will work for you.

2- Create Mac Boot Disk

Download these needed tools to create boot disk image to allow you installing OS X directly from installation DVD. This tool that helps you install Mac OSX on a PC withoug using a Mac:
Download iBoot Supported Disk Image
[iBoot-Supported.zip] (iBoot)

Download Empire EFI
[Empire EFI v1.085 R2] (Empire EFI)

You can choose one of those two. However prepare rewriteable CD or CD blank to burn boot disk image of the two tools above. Then burn it on a CD, don’t forget to use Burn Image File instead of copy the disk image file to a blank CD (use disk image burning mode).

3- Setting Up BIOS Configuration

While booting hit [Del] on keyboard to enter BIOS Setup. If you are using GA-H55M-USB3 motherboard, just make a few changes within three sections of the bios: Advanced BIOS Features, Integrated Peripherals, and Power Management Setup.
3.a – Go to Advanced BIOS Features and set the First Boot Device to CDROM, and Second boot to Hard disk.
3.b- Go to Integrated Peripherals menu, configure SATA to run in AHCI mode and set both PCH SATA Control Mode and Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode to AHCI.
3.c- Go to Power Management Setup and set the HPET Mode to 64-bit mode.

4- Insert the iBoot (or Empire EFI) boot disk

After setting up necessary things in BIOS, insert your previously created iBoot boot disk to DVD drive. If you are still in BIOS screen, don’t forget to save and restart.

5- Eject the disk when a screen below appears

iBoot screen

6- Insert the Retail Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD, wait a few seconds, and press F5.

7- When you see the screen below, select Mac OS X Install DVD and press Enter.

Mac OSX Snow Leopard disk inserted

8- A Language screen selection will appear, select your language and click the arrow to proceed.

If you don’t make it to the language selection screen, try downloading a different version of iBoot or Empire EFI.

9- Select your disk drive and click [Partition] tab

10- Then Select 1 Partition for the partition scheme.

Don’t make partition larger than 1 TB. If does, you should split it.

11- Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the Format in the Volume Information

12- Click Options then select GUID Partition Table, and then click OK.

13- Click Apply

14- Quit Disk Utility and proceed with the installation. Install on the Hackintosh partition.

15- Reboot the machine

Found error after reboot? This is because you need to install the boot loader to enable you boot to Mac OSX properly. Eject the Mac OS X Snow Leopard install DVD, put your boot CD (iBoot or Empire EFI) back into the drive, and reboot the machine.

16- Install the Boot Loader and Drivers

When you boot up, select the partition you’ve just made (example: “Hackintosh”) then press Enter to boot into Mac OSX system. Once you are in, download an run Multibeast.

Download MultiBeast to Install Boot loader and Drivers in Mac OSX
MultiBeast is a free tool to help you install boot loader and drivers needed for your Mac computer runs properly. You also need to download DSDT file if you are using Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 motherboard.
[MultiBeast.zip] [DSDT-GA-H55M-USB3-F7.aml]

17- Launch MultiBeast and Install Drivers

Make following selection, see pic:
run multibeast and install driver on Mac
your choices will differ if you have a different motherboard/hardware configuration. Then click [continue] and wait till all installation process done.

18- Eject the iBoot CD and Reboot

Now you should be able to boot right up from the hard drive without requiring iBoot CD again. You are done. After rebooting, your newly Mac OS X PC should runs well.

Congratulation for your new Mac OS X PC

So you now can playaround with your newly Hackintosh PC.
