7 Steps to Reset Waste Ink Counter on MP198, MP258, MP276, MP496, MP558, MP568, and MP648 Printer
1- Download Canon Printer Resetter Tool (Service Tool)
2- Put your Canon printer in Service Mode.
3- Now Run service_tool 1050.exe.
4- Confirm detected USB-port numbers on USB port column.
5- Click [Main button] on Clear ink counter section. Make sure there are papers in the paper feed because the printer will print after the process is complete.
6- Click [platen button] on the [Clear ink counter] section. The printer will print again.
7- Turn off the printer and then turn the printer on. You printer is ready for use.

service tool 1050 CANNOT reset mp258.i’ve try it already.must find other tools.until now still have not found.realy annoying!!
same here service tool 1050 on my mp258 doesn’t work it hangs up when i’m pressing main in clear in counter, i’m using win 7 64bit and windows xp 2nd edition. my error is P07.. any idea anyone?

ihave Put our Canon printer in Service Mode.
Run service_tool 1050.exe.
Confirm detected USB-port numbers on USB port column
Click [Main button] on Clear ink counter section BUT service_tool 1050.exe. is not rissponding
I HAVE PRESS 1 Press power button / power switch
2. Plug cable power with holding power button
3. Press Reset button one,(ALARM LED LID)& release power button and press reset button twice until BUT control panel DON’T SHOW “0″

Got my MP496 in service mode, ran service tool and confirmed USB port and click on main button. A window pops up saying something like action is finished. So far, so good but when I click on Platen, an error code 001 pops up and the printer still gives the low ink warning and doesn;t print.What’s wrong???

i already at steps 6. when i click at platen button, the pop up message shows error! (error code: 001)
so how to fix it?

Teja and ifilea,the method both of you are doing is not consider as a resetting ink level procedure.You actually doing the bypass proces.The method that most of us seeking is “How To Reset The Ink Level for Canon Mp258″ so that canon ink level indicator will show full ink level once we do the reset proces.
