Run Android Mobile OS on PC / Laptop
Previously we’ve mentioned guide to run Android OS on computer by installing it on bootable USB disk. Now here it is another tutorial how to run Google Android OS (mobile OS) on computer (PC/laptop) by using Android SDK emulator. So you can run Android OS just like exactly the Android mobile OS on Android handset (Nexus One, Motorola Droid, HTC, etc). It is surely useful to try and take a look on using Android mobile OS without having to buy its device (smartphone handset).

Steps to Run Android OS on Computer with Android SDK
1- Download Android SDK and AVD Manager tool.
[Android SDK & Android Virtual Device Manager]
2- After you have downloaded the Android SDK zip file, now unzip the android-sdk-windows folder. Open the folder and then open SDK Setup.exe.
3- You will be prompted by a window that scans Google’s servers to find out what Android OS download is available.
4- If you found error, close the window. Then click on [Setting] option in Android SDK main window.
5- Click on the check box labelled “Force http:// … sources to be fetched using http://…”
6- The Refresh Sources window will appear again for a moment and then disappear. But then a new window will appear asking what packages you would like to install.

7- Now select Android package(s) you want to install. You can install them all or just a few of them.
8- Click on [Install] button. Wait for Android OS package is downloaded.
9- Now it is time to emulate Android phone on your computer. Now go to the Virtual Devices section of the Android SDK and then click New. A new windows will then appear.
10- Name your phone with anything (you can even name it as Nexus One, Droid X, etc) like “My Virtual Android Phone”
11- Next, click the Target drop down box and select an operating system from the list. It is up to you which one, which Android OS versions you want.
12- Now define the size of SD Card (virtuall storage for your virtual Android phone) on SD Card Size section (example 1024 or 512).
13- So you’ll also need to select a display from the Built-In drop-down menu in the Skin section. Don’t get worried, the default (HVGA) will be fine.
14- Click on [Create AVD] button. Now your emulated phone will appear in the Virtual Devices menu.
15- Select the emulated phone you’ve just created and then click on [Start] button.
16- Leave anything default then click on [Launch] button.
17- Now you have a virtual Android smartphone on your PC.
Image above showing you a computer running virtual Android 2.2 OS (Froyo). With virtual Android phone you can do almost anything like real handset except: make a call, use camera, and playing music. However with the emulated virtual Android smartphone you can install Android apps from Android marketplace. [via]
